Top Japanese porn producer Soft on Demand has opened its mini theme park complex in Kabukicho, Tokyo, which, despite recent gentrification, remains one of the centers of the adult and sex industry.

As previously reported, SOD Land is five floors devoted to porn. Visitors can get food and drink served by actual adult video stars or sex workers in several different types of establishments.

Here are some pictures from when the site opened to the public on October 10. People were lining to get in, despite the pre-typhoon rainy weather.

The “silent bar” on the top floor is the sexiest room in the building, since porn stars lounge around in bikinis while customers watch behind a one-way mirror. (The lovely ladies in the picture above are An Mashiro and Hono Wakamiya.)

The facility has obvious been in the planning for months, if not years, but is unfortunately opening in the midst of the coronavirus crisis (albeit much milder, so far, in Japan than in other places around the world). As such, the organizers have outfitted the building with a host of additional hygiene technologies and systems to help ventilate and protect patrons. (There was talk behind the scenes of pushing back the opening to 2021 but SOD was bullish about their prospects.)

Staff are working behind plastic screens, but it shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying their looks or the proximity of being close to genuine AV performers — who don’t seem to wear face masks or shields.

SOD Land is open from 5 to 11 pm on weekdays, and from 3 to 11 pm on weekends and holidays.

As widely reported in the print and TV media this week, top Japanese porn star (or “sexy actress” as the mainstream media euphemism has it) Yuria Satomi was the victim of theft at her exclusive Nakameguro condo on the morning of October 26.

Two thieves posing as delivery men broke into her apartment after she answered the door. The AV actress was held down by one while the other ransacked her home in search of cash. They were apparently in phone contact with and receiving instructions from an accomplice outside, said Satomi, who feared for her life during the incident despite the men’s reassurances that they were only after her money.

The men eventually found ¥2.5 million in cash in a safe (which was left unlocked) and another ¥3.5 million just lying around in a closet.

She called the police after they had left. The cops quickly identified the thieves’ car from surveillance camera footage and could swiftly arrest three male teenagers aged between 17 and 19 that same afternoon. In their car, they had ¥4 million.

Satomi lives in a prominent high-rise luxury condo in the central Tokyo district of Nakameguro. The 45-story tower has a permanent concierge on the ground floor.

Satomi’s woes with the tax authorities a few years ago exposed how women in the porn and entertainment industry earn very lucrative side incomes through compensated dating. Now aged 35, she is a porn veteran, having made her debut as Aya Koizumi in 2003.

She had so much cash in her apartment apparently to pay for upcoming “beauty expenses” (which we may assume are plastic surgery operations). The intruders seemingly knew of Yuria’s tax trouble, as the figure they accused her of hiding in her home roughly matched the back taxes she famously had to pay.

The actress Mao Miyaji is to release a new photo book, her first in 10 years.

“Aisansan” (roughly, Bright Encounter) comes out at the end of December, with preview shots already published in the weekly magazine Friday.

Now aged 36 and entering jukujo (MILF) territory, Mao Miyaji is something of an industry veteran.

After a string of major roles on TV in the 2000s, her career has been quieter for several years. She married a man seven years her senior in 2017.

She has done semi-nude photo shoots before (like below), where she showed off her slender body and butt, though her breasts were nominally covered.

“Aisansan” is rumored to be her first topless photo shoot.

In an episode of the Japanese TV drama Bokura wa koi ga heta sugiru (We’re Too Bad at Romance, 僕らは恋がヘタすぎる), gravure idol Nana Asakawa (浅川梨奈) is shown riding her male lover cowgirl in a sex scene.

Bokura wa koi ga heta sugiru is broadcast domestically on Asahi TV and stars Umika Kawashima and Jin Shirasu in the lead roles.

Perhaps the gradol can land a role in the upcoming second season of The Naked Director?

One of our long-time favorite gradols, Ishioka has announced that that she is “graduating” — i.e., retiring from the industry.

This can be more one of several things: her career is stalling and so her agency is dropping her at the end of her contract; she is fed up with the industry and her career, and wants to do something else (or get married, which is hard to do while remaining a gradol); or she is switching agencies and needs to change her professional name for contractual reasons.

Ishioka has worked as a gravure idol for around nine years and is now 30, when gradols have to transition from a young look to a more alluring, sensual jukujo “older” style.

“After the Rain” was shot in Okinawa and comes out on December 1 from Kobunsha, which also publishes the weekly magazine FLASH, who first ran the story of Ishioka’s retirement in an issue last week.

Though she has released plenty of digital photo books and DVDs, “After the Rain” is only her second print photo book.

We hope to share highlights from “After the Rain” when they become available.

One of the staples parts of being a gradol, or gravure idol, is posing for a photo session at Sofmap in Akihabara.

The women stand there, invariably scantily clad in a bikini while members of the media snap away. This is usually part of a press conference to promote some kind of release or appearance.

The photos are ubiquitous: a gradol posed against the squared advertising on the wall behind her.

Just occasionally does a photo session stand out.

In this case, gravure idol Rin Sakura (桜りん) was going through the standard motions of a session — in this case, to promote a DVD, her first such release in three years — but fans later spotted an Easter egg, of sorts.

Her bikini top was not as close-fitting as might have been assumed. In fact, she was inadvertently revealing her nipple.

Granted, you have to really zoom in and then brighten the image, but her nipple is clearly there.

Sakura is known as a particularly flexible and supple lady, having honed her body through gymnastics.

In a highly competitive industry, gradols need to have something special to last the course and build a career. Perhaps Sakura was borrowing a tactic from Hikari Hashimoto and deliberately letting her breast be seen. It’s done the trick in terms of generating more digital ink about her.

While most recent news about Japanese porn has been dominated by the very welcome return of Asahi Mizuno, we wanted to highlight another example we found that shows how part of the industry operates.

Once again, a minor idol from a group relatively unknown in the mainstream has been persuaded to switch from music to porn.

In this case, it’s 19-year-old Sayaka Takayama (高山さやか), formerly of Girl’s Horizon (aka Garuhora), who has made her AV debut under the name Nana Yaotome (八乙女なな) mere weeks after leaving the group.

The 180-minute release (MIFD00140) comes out on December 13 via the always-reliable Moodyz, a label that specializes in such crossover debuts and has helped launch a fair few careers in this way (not least Shoko Takahashi and Yua Mikami’s).

Takayama was a member of Girl’s Horizon from September 2018 to November 2020.

While Takayama/Yaotome is unlikely to enjoy a career as illustrious as Asahi Mizuno, we introduce her debut here to show once more the fluid intersection that exists between Japanese porn and idols (especially music or chika/underground idols, though also sometimes gravure idols).

Gravure idol and actress Miyu Kitamuki has posed for her most explicit photo shoot to date, a semi-nude spread in which she is fully naked but her modesty is hidden by carefully placed body parts — not least, the classic “hand bra” (tebura).

The pictures appear in her first photo book, “Koiyou” (恋夕, Love Night), which came out last week from Kodansha. Previews were published in Weekly Playboy magazine.

The 20-year-old Kitamuki got her start in the entertainment industry in 2018 and, as an actress, her career highlights so far include the NHK drama series Idaten. She is already the veteran of countless lingerie and swimwear shoots.

It’s a bold move for someone aiming to break into the mainstream, and we hope it brings her lots of, ahem, exposure. “Koiyou” is competing during this busy end-of-year season against several other splashy photo books, including ones from Sumire Yokono and Hikaru Aoyama, a final one from the retiring Mai Ishioka, a comeback release from Mao Miyaji, a book and calendar from the older Asami Kumakiri, and another from Marika Matsumoto.

The end-of-year photo book rush just got a bit busier with the debut release from Anri Gento (源藤アンリ).

While not particularly well known as a model or celebrity, Gento has notched up a fair number of television appearances recently. It’s perhaps a little surprising that such a relative newbie would land her own photo book publishing deal with Shogakukan, though she has seized the opportunity with aplomb.

A guaranteed way to generate headlines and online interest is to take things a step further. Anri has stepped up to the challenge swimmingly by taking off her clothes.

Coming out December 7, “ANRI” is not a fully nude photo book, let’s be clear, but Anri is completely naked in at least one shot and shows off her attractive back and butt, and the 25-year-old Hokkaido native shows off some side boob in another photo.

In a competitive marketplace, we wonder if Anri has got what it takes to last the long haul, but she’s certainly making a quick splash early on.

Like most people, we are keen — alright, desperate! — to see this year done and dusted. With the new COVID strain, though, something tells us that the calendar simply turning into 2021 won’t suddenly makes things OK.

So we are always pleased to see news like this sneak into the final days of the year.

The gravure idol Kaoru Yasui is known for her busty body, large butt, and come-hither looks. The big question is whether or not she can keep up the momentum, and harness her fandom (not least, tens of thousands of social media followers) to build a porn career that lasts beyond just a couple of initial releases.

Despite having some of the thinnest and best condoms in the world, use of contraception in Japan remains relatively low, resulting in frequent shotgun weddings — including high-profile celebrities.

As such, Japan’s two main condoms brands — Sagami and Okamoto — try all sorts of novel marketing campaigns to encourage couples to use their products.

The latest comes from Sagami, known for its 0.01 mm condoms and Keith Haring art condoms. The manufacturer hired gravure idol Airi Shimizu as its twelfth brand ambassador.

The news was announced in mid-December.

Specifically, Shimizu — a firm favorite of this blog — is meant to be helping to promote the Sagami Original 0.02 condoms. What this means in practice is basically that the 28-year-old Kansai native poses for a few pictures in branded clothing and while holding packs of the thin condoms.

She also made a “virgin-imparting karate” video, though quite how that promotes safe sex, let alone Sagami’s own condoms, we aren’t sure.

Sagami is perhaps hoping the video might go viral, but as much as we like Airi Shimizu, this is not as strong a marketing idea as, say, Okamoto’s past anime series or dinosaur sex video, or even Durex’s fake horror movie.

You might also think that recruiting a hot gradol would do little more than encourage men to jerk off, since the opportunity to consume new images and videos of her is going to get guys hornier, and we all know what happens then. Nayuka Mine is one of the most high-profile ex-porn stars in Japan.

She worked as an adult video performer for five years from 2005. She has since become a popular manga artist. Her latest book, a semi-autobiography, came out in December last year.

In a recent two-part interview with the Bunshun online, 36-year-old Mine explained her past.

Today, she doesn’t regret her porn past, saying that everyone feels that their life has its own “demerits,” whether it’s harassment in a marriage or a low salary at work. “Whatever choice you make, there are always going to be demerits.”
