Today we wanted to resurrect to our Idol of the Week series, where we showcase a gorgeous lady from the pantheon of gravure idols (glamor models) in Japan.

This may not become a regular fixture like it used to be but we do spot some tempting examples every now and then. (For more gravure idols, check out our Tumblr account.)

Eri Oishi is one such: a fashion model, gravure idol and television “tarento”.

With a slinky, sporty body, this “Heisei Venus” was born in Tokyo in 1993.

Kei Jonishi of the Osaka-based AKB48 spin-off idol group NMB48 has released a new semi-nude photo book, “21K”.

The soon-to-be 22-year-old idol from Shiga is one of the most popular members of NMB48, alongside Sayaka Yamamoto and Miru Shiroma. “21K” is her second photo book. Released in February, it is set to propel Jonishi to further stardom. (That being said, at the moment the buzz is actually mostly about Nogizaka46’s Mai Shiraishi and her photo book, “Passport”.)

The photos include images of the serenely white and thin Jonishi standing with her chest exposed and her modesty covered only by her long hair, a towel, or a very carefully placed item of clothing. One shot also features her in the “hand bra” (tebura) pose, which has become something of a cliche in idol photo books now.

She’s finally done it. Miyako Akane has answered our prayers by making the next logical step in her career and becoming a porn star this spring.

Miyako Akane is a gravure idol and chakuero idol — i.e., a busty idol who keeps her clothes on but barely (as opposed to AV idols, who do fully nude photo shoots all the time).

We don’t adhere to the obsession with youth: we think women get better with age (to a certain extent) and this nearly 30-year-old Haruna looks better than ever.

The former Olympic snowboarder Mero Imai is to make her porn debut on the Muteki label, a studio that specializes in celebrities switching to the adult video industry. (Recent examples include Anri Sakaguchi, Miyako Akane, and Yua Mikami.)

As we wrote back in 2015, Mero Imai is a former half-pipe Olympic competitor in 2006. However, her lack of success at the Winter games led to personal and family problems and she started working as a hostess in Osaka.

As is sadly too common in the hostessing world, she then segued into a career as a delivery health call girl. She also had plastic surgery, attempted suicide, got married while pregnant, got divorced, married and divorced again (same guy)… Quite the life.

And now, following her first hair nude (full-frontal) shoot in 2013 for the photo book “Mellow Style” and various other revealing shoots since (and a DVD), she has finally taken the plunge into AV.

Imai debuts for Muteki on May 1st. Snow Drop stars the 29-year-old putting her experiences in prostitution, sport and nude shoots to good use for 140 minutes. No preview images are yet available but one thing is for sure: Mero Imai should certainly know what she’s doing. We look forward to updating you all with some images when they appear online.

So when we watch the 2020 Olympics, we can also speculate which of the athletes may one day switch to another career that makes use of their physique.

A naked video of gravure idol Yuriko Ishihara has leaked online.

The POV hamedori-style footage shows the busty model nude, fingering herself, and being groped by a lucky guy. Who uploaded it is unknown, but it spells the end of her career.

In some of the shots her face is partially covered by a surgical mask, though this is frequently removed. It is clearly her.

She started off as a junior idol when she was a teenager and ostensibly retired in 2012 after a 7-year career. Like Imai, she is alleged to have later worked as a prostitute to make ends meet.

If Tokyo Sports is right, Nakamura may return to our lives as early as May or June as the star of a porn release from Muteki. Still only 26 years old and with looks that recall the popular AV star Riku Minato, she potentially has a good career ahead of her.

No details or confirmation is currently available, though it seems that Nakamura is also not denying the rumor per se. We can but hope.

Muteki specializes in crossover porn debuts whereby women from mainstream acting, idol careers or music switch over to adult video.

Previously successes include Shoko Takasaki/Takahashi, Chiharu Komatsu, Anri Sakaguchi, and Yua Mikami.

So who’s next? The cospalyer Iiniku Ushijima?! Sadly, we almost fell for that rumor before.

Another former AKB48 idol has made her porn debut, once again proving the thin pink line that exists between the industries.

Joining numerous other ex-AKB girls who “graduated” onto to adult video careers, Ryo Sakata’s first porn film was released in mid-March from the Maxing label. She has already released a second one this month. Clearly she and her paymasters want to milk her appeal, which is not hard to see.

To be fair, the 27-year-old Ryo Sakata was only a member of AKB48 for around half a month in December 2006. She now uses the name Miu Sanae but beady-eyed fans were able to spot it was her.

Other colleagues who have likewise made the jump into porn include Rina Nakanishi, Risa Naruse, Eri Takamatsu and Rumi Yonezawa.

The most high-profile and successful, though, has been former SKE48 idol Momona Kito, who is now known as Yua Mikami and hasn’t looked back since her explosive debut in 2015.

What do you think? Mero Imai has a nice body and there’s always the novelty factor with a release like this, but otherwise it looks pretty banal in terms of setting and on-screen action.

A survey by Japan Pres Research Institute asked 1,000 people across various countries for their views on Japan. Part of this included naming living or dead Japanese people that they knew. The results were, to say the least, intriguing…

By default the survey became a resource for seeing which Japanese people are famous abroad. In France, America, South Korea and other places, the results were familiar: the prime minister, emperor, popular sports figures, an anime character, and so on.

But in Thailand, things were rather different:

21-year-old Risako Okada, a former member of NMB48 (the Osaka sister group of AKB48), is set to release her first porn on the Muteki label, which specializes in performers switching from mainstream entertainment to AV.

She has launched her new career with a hair nude full-frontal photo shoot, which would be noteworthy in and of itself, though it also whets our appetites for the AV release coming from Muteki soon.

Risako Okada, aka Risapoyo, was a member of NMB48 from 2011 to 2012, after which the Osaka native attempted to find a path for herself as a tarento and gravure idol. She released a DVD in 2015 but that’s about it. Her 9-month stint as a “trainee” in NMB48 may have been short-lived, but perhaps she has a bright future ahead of her in adult video?

Okada’s debut will be in the ambitiously titled Number 01, released on July 1st. As is customary for largely contractual reasons, she now performs under a new stage name, Miko Matsuda.

Several idols from the AKB empire have moved into porn and nude modelling, and there actually probably some others who have done so under the radar. However, only Momona Kito (formerly of SKE48, now known professionally as Yua Mikami) has proved successful.

The AV and gravure idols magazine Weekly Playboy is opening a bar in Kabukicho from June 10th.

Every night, different gravure models will be serving drinks at Shupure Sakaba (Weekly Playboy Bar) to a few very lucky customers.

This is an exclusive VIP bar with just five seats per session and a limit of only three seatings per night. Needless to say, reservations are a must and there is a hefty cover charge of ¥10,000 for one hour and a four-course meal (drinks and food not in the courses are extra).

The first night on June 10th will see the curvy delights of Ayaka Sayama and Mai Hakase serve 15 patrons. Other ladies announced on the schedule include Aya Kawasaki, Tomomi Morisaki, Nene Matsuoka, Aya Hazuki, Momoko Tani, Emi Ito, Saki Suzuki, and Yui Konno.

Shupure Sakaba will be open for a year and is part of the magazine’s 50th anniversary celebrations. It previously celebrated its milestone by bringing together 51 naked porn stars in one shoot as well as 50 scantily clad gravure idols. It also had an awesome billboard with life-sized images of 10 models in Shinjuku.

One of the things we love about Japanese pornography is its use of parody and pastiche — and the parody is often very topic.

This is something of a ongoing trait in Japanese adult toys in general, too, as the parody masturbators and lubes of anime, mascots, celebrities and products show. Recently we even wrote about an onahole inspired by Kumamoto Prefecture.

What is it about female Japanese sports athletes? They just keep turning us on.

While Tomomi Takano was something of a pioneer in terms of boxers, this gravure-athlete trend is not actually new per se. There have been Japanese wrestler and bodybuilder “idols” for a long time, and even AKB48 tried to get in on the act recently.
